The Last Jedi trailer #2 Thoughts and Impressions

Initial feelings after 2 views so far
Porgs are the new Ewoks.
Luke is scared of Rey???
Snoke isn't talking to Kylo
Gorilla Walkers....meh
Where’s Lando!
Is Chewie using ancient Bothan pearl cream? he looks younger than in TFA!
Wow Rey still has both appendages!
Oh Kylo you’re not gonna do it.
I’ll try spinning, that’s a good trick.
Snoke and the amazing technicolor bathrobe!
I still don’t care about Phasma, Poe or Finn.....
The trailer is cleverly spliced to make it look like Rey is talking to Kylo at the end....she's not. Although a Rey and Kylo double team would be fresh! Always two there are....
If the rumors are true about Snoke, he is Disney / LFL doorway to the Old Republic and I think we're gonna see Luke, Rey and Kylo work together to defeat Snoke.

Rebels S4 Trailer 2

The 2nd trailer for the fourth and final season of Star Wars Rebels just came out and based on the timeline the series should bleed nicely into Rogue One and provide a smooth transition for Director Krennic, and perhaps some easter eggs for the December release of The Last Jedi. I'm very curious about the fate of Grand Admiral Thrawn!
I'm also very excited to see the return of Bo Katan....seems like the dark Sabre keeps coming around to her.

Windjammers Launch Trailer is solid gold!

I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600 days I've seen the spectrum of video game commercials and trailers and this one is so keenly aware of awfulness it has risen to greatness! I don't quite understand how this game was in contention to be at EVO this year but this 23 year old Neo Geo game totaly reminds me of Super Dodge Ball for the NES!
There needs to be a Video Game trailer/Commercial awards show and this needs to win!

Netflix Voltron Season 3 Review

Season three of Voltron Legendary Defender was shorter than the previous two seasons by 6 episodes and it was noticeable because each of the seven episodes was near perfect! And the season finale was incredible!
What Episode 7 "The Legend Begins" has done is to elevate Emperor Zarkon, Prince Lotor and Haggar beyond the 1 dimensional (I used that word on purpose) villains they were in the original US TV series, it made these 3 tragic hero's and in doing so opened the flood gates of story potential.
Within the first 5 seconds when Haggard taps into Zarkon's sub conscience memories and see's the Altean girl (Honerva) I knew right then and there we were going to be witness to the tragic fall of Zarkon and the confrontation between him and his closest friend and ally King Alfor. Their story felt very similar to Obi Wan and Anakin's fate.

I really like the new Lotor, he may look the same but this Lotor has piloting skills that would make Isamu Alva Dyson blush, and he is quite the military and political strategist on Par with Grand Admiral Thrawn.

After watching the season I'm gonna make a prediction that Lotor's team, which happens to mirror the Voltron Paladins will each be piloting a vehicle made from the multi dimensional comet Lotor acquires in episode 30 "Hole in the Sky". And these vehicles will combine to form a giant robot equal to Voltron!

And here's the teaser trailer for season 4!

Street Fighter V S2 DLC battle for your FM! Ed or Abigail

Season 2 of SFV has certainly been a bit divisive for the FGC, so last week the 4th DLC character was revealed at EVO and as previously leaked it was Abigail from Final Fight. The previous DLC character was Ed the little boy Balrog grabbed as the S.I.N facility was crumbling down in SFIV. We got a free beta where we could try him out....I did and between his unorthodox move set, his theme and overall character design I passed.
I did however get Abigail, and IDGAF what anyone says yeah his head is small and he's wearing tires as fashion accessories but you know what? Beating Ed with Abigail is extremely satisfying and unlike my main character IDGAF if I lose with him......HE'S FUN TO PLAY WITH!!
So if you only had FM to get one of these two which would you choose?

Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One (Movie Trailer)

If you’re wondering how Steven Spielberg will bring the dystopian, VR-heavy world of Ready Player One to life, you can get your first real glimpse in the trailer (technically, a teaser for San Diego Comic Con) above.

The film is based on Ernest Cline’s novel — a book that’s been recommended to me many times as one of the best depictions of virtual reality and gaming in fiction. (Sorry, I still haven’t read it!)

One of the story’s main elements is a virtual world called OASIS. What we see of OASIS in the trailer might not feel terribly visually distinctive, but it certainly looks fun and flashy, throwing together a hodgepodge of pop culture references.

Spielberg discussed the film at Comic Con, where he described it as “the most amazing flash-forward and flashback at the same time about a decade I was very involved in, the ’80s, and a flash-forward to a future that is awaiting all of us, whether we like it or not.”

Netflix Voltron Legendary Defender Season 3 Trailer

13 days until season three of Netflix Voltron Legendary Defender returns....and the quest to find Shiro begins! I wonder if they'll follow the 80's version and bump Keith to the black lion and give the blue lion to Aurora?
Season 2 concluded in such an amazing fashion with the death of Zarcon, I'm most interested in the politics of the Galra Empire and what state it will be in when Prince Lotor arrives and if the Empire is in disarray what will he do to reinvigorate it?

New Blade Runner 2049 Trailer Shows More of The Dirty, Desperate Future

BLADE RUNNER 2049 – Trailer 2

We get a bunch of new footage from the hotly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s dystopian sci-fi classic. And Harrison Ford’s Deckard says something that’s potentially very important.

Previous glimpses have shown that Ryan Gosling’s Officer K has been tasked with finding Deckard. This new teaser hints at why. Thirty years after the first Blade Runner, the Los Angeles of 2049—or at least parts of it—looks hollowed out and haunted. That can also be said of just about every character with dialogue in this trailer. We’ll find out what they’re looking for when Blade Runner hits theaters on October 6.

Netflix CastleVania S1 Review

CastleVania on Netflix is Perfection!
I was excited when I heard this was happening but I never imagined it would be this good!
You know that feeling when you reach the last episode of a season and are like, "no no no don't stop now" well that is exactly what happened to me when the 4th episode of CastleVania ended.
Although this is an animated series based of the AAA video game franchise this is definitely not for children under 12!
I mistakenly let my 7 year old son sit and watch this with me, I let the burning at the stake scene pass but then the bar fight with the nut shot, the dislodged eyeball scene was when I decided I was gonna have to wait till the kids were asleep before I could watch this.
The series wisely begins with the CastleVania III Dracula's Curse Story line and accurately retells the story from the game from the year 1476 to the location in Europe Wallachia.
The series art style, animation, writing and voice acting are all so well done it left me craving more!

I've played almost every CastleVania game since the original minus the portable ones so seeing this series turn out as amazingly as it has is equivalent to how great The Street Fighter animated movie turned out back in 1994!

EVO 2017 July 14-16

I still actively play SFV and enjoy it, I'm hoping to see PG Punk win EVO!

BloodStained Ritual of the Night

The E3 trailer for Bloodstained Ritual of the Night just dropped and I have a good feeling this kickstarter might actually be the true spiritual successor to a classic game legacy (unlike what Mighty #9 turned out to be).
Igarashi was an assistant Director, Programmer and Writer of the legendary Symphony of the Night I have faith in IGA, if Bloodstained is half as good as SotN it'll still be 200% better than LoI.....

Netflix Castlevania Anime Series Teaser Trailer

When I first heard about this I was hopeful....still am.
I've been playing this franchise since the original you see in this clever teaser. Can't wait to check this out!

Saturday, May 20, 2017

Watched Blame last night, visually it wasn't bad, the color pallet and character design reminded me of Knights of Sidonia (same production studio), but thankfully without the creepy elastic alien phallic creature! I really wasn't able to get emotionally vested in any of the characters, which apparently is true to the Manga....characters survive just as long in BLAME as in Game of Thrones and TWD. The environment in BLAME is supposed to instill a sense of dread, hopelessness and endlessness but I never felt that in this movie. Also the sound track didn't do anything for me either in fact I preferred the sound track from the ONA (below).
All in all the NETFLIX BLAME! movie by Polygon has the same sterile, muted visual style like Knights of Sedonia, with an underwhelming soundtrack and characters that you never get enough time or info to get invested in....

Blame felt like a hollow blend of The Matrix and Terminator 2. Visually it's good but it just felt longer than necessary.

Blade Runner 2049 First Trailer

Like I said at the beginning of the year 2017 is gonna put us in the poor house with all the amazing movies coming out this year, Ridley Scott has potentially 2 huge films this year with Prometheus and now Blade Runner 2049!

I'm on the fence about Jared Leto, I have confidence that Ridley Scott chose the right actors for the roles but I still have reservations.....I have a feeling Leto is playing a relative of Eldon Tryrell.
I love the aesthetic of the new film, it feels like the original based on this trailer, but also gives the impression that the world is going to be expanded upon.
It's cool to see that Atari is still sponsoring the Blade Runner franchise LMAO! I'm not even sure if Ridley Scott needed to get permission to use the Atari logo at this point, I'm not even sure who owns the trademark any more.
I guess Gaff was right when he said. "It's too bad she won't live...but then again who does" referring to Rachael because Sean Young is nowhere to be seen.
I'm really excited for this film because I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen the entire film is a mystery at this point and I love it!
I'm going to attempt to stay as spoiler free as possible!

Retro Game Review: Transistor

Back in May of 2014 I wrote a post about 4 games I wanted that caught my eye the 4 lil games... and one was Transistor. I finally got around to playing it and I loved it! A very fresh game with a cool art deco aesthetic and a refreshingly unique story and game play!
On the surface the game is about a weapon that absorbs the "souls" of it's victims and how a lounge singer named Red is saved by a mysterious dude "a fan". Red acquires the Transistor and seeks revenge on the group called the Camerata  that tried to "end" her. Along the way Red battles mobs known as "The Process". Defeating these processes you earn XP which help level up Red and in turn level up the Transistor.
As you and the Transistor level up you gain access to new abilities called Functions such as Crash, Breach, Spark, Jaunt, Bounce, Load, Help, Mask, Ping, Switch, Get, Purge, Flood, Cull, Tap and Void.
Each of these functions require a certain amount of Mem from 1-4 and as you progress thru the game you unlock additional Mem and additional slots; Active, Passive and Upgrade Slots to attach a Function to, and depending where you place the function determines the Functions purpose. So each of the 16 functions can be utilized 3 different ways. And later in the game you can actually earn multiple of the same function so in essence you can use Void in an Active Slot AND a Passive (sub) Slot.
There is alot of flexibility with how you fight the Process with the Transistor and tooling around with different combinations of Functions adds a great deal of depth to this game.
Once you get the gist of the game there are also Process Limiters that alter the effects of defeated processes adding a higher level of difficulty.
One of the most interesting aspects of the game is the story in my opinion, The whole story takes place in the city of Cloudbank, and the main antagonist is the "Process" that seems to corrupt high profile personalities in Cloudbank that when integrated into the Transistor become functions that compliment that personality.
The whole story feels very familiar, it reminds me ALOT of the original Matrix, where all these citizens of Cloudbank, Lillian Platt, Wave Tennegan, Henter Jallaford, Farrah Yon-Dale, Olmarq, Sybil Reiz, Asher and Grant Kendrell and Royce Bracket all exist in this reality but I believe their whole reality is artificial or with in a computer or perhaps in a cloud. And the transistor, unbeknownst to any of them is a gateway to another reality...our reality. The outro also somewhat supports my theory.
Great little game, definately worth the price!

Retro Game Review: Child of Light

This game is simply gorgeous from the visual aesthetic of a water color painting to the haunting sound track to the story of Aurora and her quest to save her father from death.
This gem from Ubi Soft Montreal studio in is a perfect example how how small and simple doesn't always equate to a less impressive experience, sometimes less is more!
There is beauty throughout this game from the art design to the dialog between Aurora and the NPC's and party members to the games story!
The battle system is very reminisent to old school Final Fantasy games, when Aurora comes in contact with an enemy mob the screen goes to a battle screen where the enemy's (up to 3) show up on the right side and the party members on the left. There is a ATB system with a single bar with avatars representing all characters in the battle. Each character's avatar moves at different speeds till it reaches the "casting point" once the avatar reaches that point the speed slows down till it reaches the end of the ATB bar, then the character performs an action, if the attack hits the recipients turn could be interrupted sending the player or enemy back to the beginning  of the ATB bar. So the player isn't just passivly waiting for their turn there's some strategy involved in which characters you keep in battle. You can swap out any character during battles once the character reaches the "casting" point on the ATB bar, which will save your ass during some particularly difficult battles.
The level up system is also very simplistic but has adequate depth to allow the player to feel like they have control over the characters progression, you earn skill points during battles and can use the points on the characters skill tree to upgrade MP, HP, offensive and/or defensive abilities and spells. Each character has their own individual skill tree with character specific skills so building a well rounded party or a highly offensive party is up to the player how they prefer to tackle the battles.

Child of Light also has a crafting element with gems called Oculi,  you can think of them like the materia system from FFVII they are gemstones that can be attached 1 per item (weapon, armor, accessory) to enhance it's attributes such as adding elemental damage to attacks or enhance chance of evasion or increase max HP/ MP,
There are 3 tiers of Oculi;
Base Oculi: Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald
Crafted Oculi: Tourmaline, Amethyst, Citrine
Advanced Crafted Oculi: Diamond, Onyx, Spinel

The characters in Child of Light are all unique and varied enough to stand on there own,
Finn is a Capili (dwarf) who is the equivalent to FF's Black Mage
Genovefa  is a Piscean  who would be the equivalent to FF Tactics Time Mage
Igniculus is a floating orb of light that can assist Aurora by healing with his light and blinding enemies which stops them in their tracks. I'd say Iggy would be the equivalent to FF's Carbuncle.
Norah is Aurora's step sister and she reveals herself to also be NOX her skills also make her equivalent to a Time Mage
Oengus is a Kategida warrior and is pretty much a tank so we'll say he's the Knight in CoL
Robert is a Bolmus (mouse) his primary weapon is a Bow and Arrow that can inflict status ailments on enemies he's like a Archer from FF Tactics
Rubella is a Aerostati that specializes in healing....we all know what she would be in the FF realm
Tristis is Rubella's brother and he casts support spells on the mage.
CoL was a gorgeous game in so many aspects, I enjoyed the simplicity of it which brought me back to a time when RPG's ruled consoles.
If you enjoyed JRPG's back in the day you'll truly appreciate Child of Light.

Star Wars Battlefront II Reveal Trailer Star Wars Celebration 2017

I never bought the new Battlefront even though I was impressed by the trailer, and in retrospect I'm so glad I held off. This generation of selling an incomplete titles at full price and then releasing DLC that accounts for about 20% of the game at rediculous prices. When all is said and done and you have all the DLC expansions the game could cost over $100! Fuck that shit!
I did however play the Original Battlefront games on the PS2....back when games were sold complete....ok grumpy old school gamer rant end. I do hope EA/ Dice listened to the complaints and have re thought the DLC sales model.
Because if they did I will definitely be getting BFII.
I love the fact the story looks like a game based on the Lost Stars Novel.

Dear Lucasarts....please reach out to Capcom and make Masters of Teras Kasi 2!

Movie Review: Boss Baby

This movie arrived right on time because my clan just recently grew by one and my son who's seven loves our Boss Baby but also is clearly struggling with jealousy. Mommy and Daddy are trying to evenly distribute love and attention but it's HARD!!!
So when my son and I watched this I think he understood the message.
This was a fun little movie that succeeds because it appeals to all ages, it has plenty of laughs but also has heart and for me came at just the right time!
Alec Baldwin was the perfect choice to voice the Boss Baby and the contrast of the big headed baby against the slick talking suite wearing persona was entertaining, but can someone ask the voice actor what Chrishmash is?
I enjoyed the fresh take on the ol Body Swap gimmick/ Look Who's Talking gag.

Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Trailer Star Wars Celebration 2017

Star Wars Rebels returns this fall with the the ongoing struggles of the crew of the Ghost and the fledgling Rebellion....a moment of silence for Commander Sato.....
My son and I watch every Saturday morning (thanks FiOs On Demand) and he's really enjoying learning about all the characters that we don't see in the Saga films....he's taken his first steps into a larger world....
So I've watched the trailer for Season 4 a few times and I'm gonna rub it in my son's face right now....

I'm really looking forward to next season as the Rebels timeline inches ever closer to the Rogue One time line and the connection is made!

Is Bo Katan on Tatooine?!

Agent Callus aka Fulcrum on Yavin 4

Amaterasu in Rebels???

Love ya Sabine, but this is where you lose the Darksabre!

A U wing...Could we see Cassian Andoe in Rebels S4?

Welcome to Yavin 4

Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi Trailer - Star Wars Celebration 2017

I'm sorry all I heard during the panel was Charlie Brown's teacher until the word TRAILER!!!!
Oh and that poster is AMAZING....must have! So much better than TFA rainbow bright poster.
Kylo still has that old cross hilt sabre.
OK gotta go watch it again....

40 Years of Star Wars: Star Wars Celebration 2017

Yesterday my son and I watched the opening ceremony for Star Wars Celebration 2017, celebrating 40 years of this beloved franchise. He's only 7 so he was watching because he thought we'd see the trailer for TLJ...after an hour he was like B-O-R-I-N-G, I enjoyed the panel, some of the highlights for me were seeing Dave Filoni up on Stage with George Lucas, Sam Jackson telling George to save Mace Windu, Liam Neeson giving us a spoiler about the fate of Jar Jar Binks, and seeing Mark and Harrison on stage with George and the tribute at the end to Carrie Fisher/Princees Leia...ack those feels....and seeing her daughter Billie Lourd was really nice.
I felt George Lucas's speech was heart felt and sincere....I'll just leave it at that.

Some other notable moments were Hayden Christensen seemed a bit uncomfortable or nervous on stage and it seemed like Ian was trying to help him feel more comfortable up there....nice going Palps!
Notable absentees were Dennis Lawson ,  Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman.

Looking forward to today's The Last Jedi panel that begins in about 45 minutes!

GHOST IN THE SHELL - Steve Aoki Remix (2017)

Steve Aoiki remixes the iconic theme song of the 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime, composed by Kenji Kawaii.

PLOT: A cyborg policewoman attempts to bring down a nefarious computer hacker.

CAST: Scarlett Johansson, Michael Pitt, Rila Fukushima

Steve Aoki is in trouble with hardcore Ghost in the Shell fans, after remixing the original animated film's soundtrack for the upcoming Hollywood remake.
The original score, taken from the opening sequence for the 1995 animated film, is sacred to followers of the franchise, and they are really not feeling the dub-love.

Release Date: 31 March 2017 (USA)

Game Review: Life is Strange

Have you ever said to yourself "if I could go back and do it again..."
That's essentially what this game is all about.
Life is Strange is a game that revolves around a girl (Max Caulfield) who returns to her childhood home town of Blackwell because she gets accepted to the prestigious Blackwell Academy for photography. But even in this beautiful little fishing town in Oregon there is some seriously bad mojo going on here!
Life is Strange  can best be described as a digital interactive TV series clearly inspired by shows like Twin Peaks.
I don't mean that in a negative way at all, this game is extremely good and once you get into it you'll find it hard to stop until you reach the end of the final chapter!
The game opens to Max in Mr Jefferson's photography class where she has a vision of an enormous hurricane destroying the town while Mr Jefferson is lecturing the class.

The first chapter "Chrysalis" introduces us to the characters of Blackwell Academy, you meet Max's childhood BFF Chloe Price, and a bunch of other students at Blackwell like Nathan Prescott the rich kid who believes he's untouchable, Kate Marsh a girl who's fallen victim to bullying due to a viral video from a Vortex Club Party, Victoria Chase the obnoxious rich girl that is the epitome of the mean girl stereotype with her mean girl minions, then there's the jocks like Hayden Jones,  and the geeks like Brooke and Warren.
By the conclusion of the first Chapter Max discovers her power to rewind time, is reunited with her childhood BFF and we learn how Chloe's life has taken a dramatic turn since her father died in a car accident, and we begin Max and Chloe's trip to discover what happened to Rachel Amber a student at Blackwell that's been missing for 6 months.
This game is Rated M for some very good reasons, this game is not for kids,,,not for blood and gore, but for much more realistic subjects, bullying, suicide, child abuse, drug abuse, school violence, kidnapping, rape, murder, death and how to cope with it along with a slice of socio-economic differences and how they affect people......heavy stuff folks!
Life is Strange came out as episodic DLC starting  in January 2015, this gem flew right under my radar but fortunately I was able to grab a physical copy of the game and experience this trip back in time to when I was in high glad that chapter of my life is in the past. In retrospect it's absolutely hilarious how utterly pointless all the stupid drama was at that point in my life!
Anyway if you want to play a game that's more mature and emotionally engaging than so many games out right now check out Life is Strange!

Movie Review: The Lego Batman Movie

I took my son to see the Lego Batman movie and as I suspected it was absolutely hilarious! We were laughing so hard, obviously he didn't get all the jokes but he does have the 1967 Batman Movie starring Adam West so he did catch the Bat anti shark repellent. It's unfortunate to say but I enjoyed this movie infinitely more than BVS, even with all the comedy there was a message in the film, but wisely didn't derail the fun of the movie.
The ad campaign for this movie was brilliant and sold this film!

The music was another key ingredient that added to our enjoyment of The Lego Batman Movie!

And yes the Condiment King is an actual villain in the Batman universe...I Googled it Joker ;)
There's gonna be a lot of serious sci fi and Super Hero movies this year The Lego Batman movie was a refreshing change of pace compared to the overbearing DCU. What better way to celebrate Presidents Day weekend than for Batfans young and old to see The Lego Batman Movie!
I wish I was in the theater Robert Downey Jr. was in if he went to see this!

Street Fighter V Season 2 Second DLC Character Reveal Trailer: Kolin

Capcom just released the Season 2 Second DLC Character Reveal Trailer for.....Kolin.
I like the Lupe Fiasco song they have with the trailer, someone needs to remix Kolin's trailer with Vanilla Ice's song....yeah he only had one.
Anyway it seems as if Kolin has lost her baby face from the season 1 cinematic story, but thankfully they didn't ruin her face, in fact the more mature face is more suited for her.
So Kolin's martial arts style is systema with the element of ice. I hope Kolin get her own stage like what her trailer opens with.I'm not sure if this is a case of good video editing or not but at mark 1:03 it looks like Kolin might have a variant of Cammy's Ultra II CQC from Street Fighter IV.
Kolin V trigger, "Diamond Dust" is intriguing in that it also freezes the stun gauge and if you do stun the character with it the opponent get frozen in place on the ground!
Kolin will be available February 28th along with her Story/Battle/ Nostalgia costumes.
I guess the Underground Arena will be Kolin's official Stage so does that male Ring of Destiny Geif and Mika's stage?
